What is dried flowers?

Dried flowers are natural flowers that have undergone a drying process, which removes the moisture from the petals, leaves, and stems, effectively preserving them.

Unlike fresh flowers, dried flowers do not require water or sunlight to maintain their appearance and can last for years if properly cared for.

The drying process often results in changes in the flower’s color and texture, giving them a unique, rustic look that is quite distinct from preserved flowers or fresh blooms.

Methods of Drying Flowers:

There are several methods to do dried flowers.

Each method producing slightly different results in terms of the flower’s color, shape, and texture:

1.Air Drying:

This is the most common method. We hang the flowers upside down in a dry, warm, and dark place with good air circulation. This method is simple but may lead to some color fading.

2.Pressing:

We place the flowers  between absorbent paper and pressed under a heavy object or in a flower press.

Pressed flowers are flattened, making them ideal for use in artwork, crafts, or as bookmarks.

3.Silica Gel Drying:

Silica gel, a desiccant, is used to remove moisture from the flowers without losing their shape or color.

This method is excellent for preserving the appearance of delicate or vibrant flowers.

4.Microwave Drying:

Using silica gel and a microwave can speed up the drying process and preserve the color and shape of the flowers better than air drying.

5.Oven Drying:

Flowers can be dried in an oven set at a low temperature for several hours.

However, this method requires careful monitoring to prevent burning.
